November 15, 2018 - February 8, 2019
The Warehouse, Milwaukee, WI |
Collections are born out of devotion and years of commitment. With the discovery of new artists, art movements, and media, they can start as eclectic and unfocused. As the collector’s interest narrows, clearer intentions emerge, which form concentrations within a collection. These themes are explored across media and subject matter.
The Warehouse’s permanent collection was built by private collectors Jan Serr and John Shannon, and is based on their interests and experiences. This collection includes modern and contemporary works by lesser known as well as widely recognized local, national, and international artists. Gathered over decades, this collection is personal. The works have been regularly displayed in their home, and lived with daily. Some works are by their friends. Many works share themes. Most works have never been exhibited publicly.
This exhibit features eight concentrations from the collection ranging from contemporary craft and monotypes, to self-portraits and figurative works. Each concentration offers a glimpse into the minds of the collectors and highlight the breadth of the collection.
